Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a highly durable surge absorbing element with stable discharge start voltage by patterning the arrangement of terminal electrode, discharge electrode and spark gap.
CONSTITUTION: On both end sides of the surface 1s of an insulator 1, two terminal electrodes 2 consisting of conductive material are arranged. Between the electrodes 2, a plurality of circular discharge electrodes 3 consisting of conductive material are arranged with a spark gap 4. The electrodes 3 are formed in inlay structure of a cut plate material of thin film or bar body by printing, etching or evaporation. Further, a lead terminal 6 is provided by bending a metal plate to grasp both end parts 1e of the insulator 1 while crimping the electrodes 2. Since discharge start voltage has a correlation with the total cumulative gap length of the gap 4, the cumulative gap length is properly set, whereby it can be conformed to discharge currents of a wide range.
