To provide an easy-to-handle surgical instrument allowing a free bend of the tip of a pipe part inserted in a body, capable of extensively executing treatment work in the body, and allowing realization of miniaturization of a drive mechanism, in a surgical operation using an endoscope.
This surgical instrument comprises: a casing; the pipe part extending from the casing, inserted into the body; a hollow neck part pivotally supported by the tip of the pipe part, swingable as the neck part bends relatively to the pipe part; a hollow rod retractably penetrating the pipe part, bending the neck part according to a protrusion amount from the pipe part tip; a neck part drive means housed in the casing, imparting a prescribed advance/retreat amount to the hollow rod; an operation tool installed to a swing end of the neck part; and a flexible drive rod penetrating the neck part and the hollow rod, connected to the operation tool.
