Abstract:
PURPOSE: To rapidly tie sutures by attaching loop-shaped suture to a surgical needle. CONSTITUTION: In a disclosed loop-shaped suturing device 10, a surgical needle is equipped with a pointed part 16 and a bore axially extending in a thicker end part 18, and a flexible suturing material is folded double in its longitudinal direction to form a loop and two free end parts of the suturing material are attached to the needle within the hole of the thicker end part 18. The thicker end part 18 of the needle is deformed so that the hole thereof has an oval cross section and the length of the loop of the suture is sufficiently large as compared with that of the needle in order to facilitate the insertion of the needle and a suturing material into body tissue to be sutured and to easily form a loop by inserting the needle into the suturing material before tying the suturing material. By this constitution, the loop functions as double suture 14. This excellent method for forming a needle fitted with a looped suture-suture is also disclosed.
