A surging machine (10) includes: a sewing machine body for performing sewing; tables (2) for placing workpieces; and control means (3) for controlling the driving of the sewing machine body. The tables include: a main table (21) with the sewing machine body arranged therein; an auxiliary table (22) to be freely connectable to the main table; and connection members (23) for connecting the main table to the auxiliary table. The main table or the auxiliary table includes detecting means (6) for detecting whether both the tables are connected or not. The control means changes a sewing operation between a single sewing mode and a cycle sewing mode according to the presence of detection by the detecting means.
