The suspension damper 10 has a damper rod 14 surrounded by a coil spring 12 and a damper base 18 provided at a tip end of the damper rod 14 via a damper mount 16. This damper base 18 has a large diameter part 44 relatively long in the height direction dimension and open at an end, a small diameter part 38 shorter than the large diameter part 44 in the height direction dimension and a tapered diameter contraction part 46 provided between the large diameter part 44 and a small diameter part 38 which is gently tapered from the large diameter part 44 to the small diameter part 38.
