To provide a very practical suspension system for a vehicle.
In the suspension system for the vehicle, a suspension spring SS, a hydraulic shock absorber SA, and an approach/separation force generating device D are arranged between a suspended member Mu and a non-suspended member Ml in parallel with each other. The approach/separation force generating device comprises an elastic body TB, and an electromagnetic actuator A which is arranged in series with the elastic body and applies a force generated by itself to the car body and wheels via the elastic body as the approach/separation force. A control unit C for controlling the approach/separation force is configured so as to perform the control for generating the approach/separation force as a vibration damping force. As a result, in addition to the damping force by the shock absorber, the damping force can be generated by the approach/separation force generating device, and the vibration damping characteristic can be suitably achieved to satisfy a purpose, and the practicality of the suspension system for the vehicle can be improved.
