To provide an improved drug delivery system which has a release speed sustained for a long time at a portion adjacent to an object portion in a body without requiring a complicated manufacturing process.
A sustained release compound contains a polymer matrix and a prodrug having formula A-L-B dispersed in the polymer (A represents a pharmacological active ingredient, L represents a linker to form the prodrug by being bound to A and B, the linker forms A shape showing a therapeutic effect by being cleaved under a physiological condition, and B is bound to A to represent an ingredient to form the prodrug having a lower solubility than the A shape showing the therapeutic effect). The compound has the solubility in water of the A shape showing the therapeutic effect which exceeds 1 mg/ml, and, on the other hand, has the solubility in water of the prodrug which is less than 1 mg/ml.
