PURPOSE: To maintain the state of good penetratability over a long period of time by forming a baked coating layer of silicone on the surface of the suture needle consisting of an austenitic stainless steel.
CONSTITUTION: An austenitic stainless steel wire having a prescribed diameter is subjected to cold drawing to reduce the diameter. The hardness of this wire is increased up to a prescribed hardness. The wire is cut and is formed with a point 1a and a cutting edge 1b by grinding. A hole 1c for mounting suture thread is formed at the end and further the wire is bent to a prescribed shape to form blank material 1 of suture needle A. The baked coating layer 2 of the silicone is formed on the blank material 1. This layer 2 is constituted of a bond layer 2a and the silicone layer 2b formed around the bond layer. The silicone layer 2b is formed thickly in the parts corresponding to hollow grooves 3 and thinly in the parts corresponding to projecting line part 4. The outside shape of the baked coating layer 2 is formed approximately to the circular shape meeting the diameter of the blank material 1.
