This swash plate centering holding mechanism 55 uses an axial piston pump 11. A cam member 39 tilts between the neutral and displacement positions. The cam member 39 is energized toward an axial cradle surface 41 and the neutral position in the turning direction. Arms 67, 69 form pivot positions 71, 73 fixed to a housing 19 on one side of a rotating shaft A at one axial end part thereof, and form swash plate engagement parts 95, 97 engaged with the swash plate on the other hand of the rotating shaft A when the swash plate 37 is in the neutral position at the other axial end part thereof. The arms 67, 69 turn around the pivot positions 71, 73 by substantially scissors type motion when a scissor pin 79 is coupled. Springs 63, 65 energize the swash plate engagement parts 95, 97, whereby the swash plate 37 is engaged with both of the swash plate engagement parts 95, 97 to be in the neutral position without input to the cam member 39.
