To facilitate assembling work in a configuration enabling high capacity without increasing a radial dimension of a cylinder block, in a swash plate type hydraulic machine.
A hydraulic pump 12 and a hydraulic motor as a swash plate type hydraulic machine includes a drive shaft 16 spline-fitted with a cylinder block 68 through a male spline 88. The drive shaft 16 includes a second male spline 90 as protrusions provided on an outer peripheral surface of a portion axially away for the male spline 88. In the middle of assembling such that the housing 34 and a port block are separated, the second male spline 90 is made circumferentially contactable with the cylinder block 68, and a relative position between the cylinder block 68 and the drive shaft 16 in the rotation direction is maintained regardless of urging force by a spring 72. Upon coupling of the housing 34 and the port block, the second male spline 90 is not contactable with the cylinder block 68.
