Abstract:
PURPOSE:To secure the space in a vessel by facilitating the switching operation between advance and retreat by arranging a hydraulic clutch for connecting and disconnecting an output shaft extending rearward from a hull and an intermediate driving shaft between the both shafts. CONSTITUTION:The output of an engine 14 is transmitted to an output shaft 18 through a double cardan coupling 16 in a propulsion unit 10. A hydraulic clutch 20 is installed at the rear edge of the output shaft 18, and the clutch 20 is equipped with a driving side member 22, driven side member 24, plural pressure plates 26 for connecting and disconnecting the both members 22 and 24, and an oil passage 28. A bevel gear 44 is installed onto the outer periphery at the front edge of the driven side member 24, and meshed with a bevel gear 48 installed at the upper edge of an intermediate driving shaft 46 which extends vertically in the unit 10. Therefore, the hydraulic clutch can be installed without projecting from the rear edge of the output shaft, and the whole unit can be made small-sized.
