Abstract:
PURPOSE: To limit current through a simple circuitry by employing a saturation reactor where a saturation current is set to reach a predetermined threshold value of a comparator as the inductance of a filter circuit. CONSTITUTION: The switching regulator comprises a switching transistor T, and an output filter comprising a reactor L and a capacitor C, and a controller S switches the transistor T depending on a output current I2 . When voltage drop across a measuring resistor R exceeds the threshold level of a comparator V, the transistor T is interrupted through the comparator V and the controller S in order to limit short circuit current or overcurrent. The reactor L is set to be saturated at the threshold level of the comparator V. According to the arrangement, overcurrent limit of the output current I2 can be determined by simply setting the reactor L regardless of the allowance of the measuring resistor R.
