CONSTITUTION: On a symbol display surface on which symbols 2a, 2b, 2c to be displayed on the display unit of a game machine are arranged in order, a specific background pattern 4 by which an illusion such as that the symbols stick out is applied. The specific background pattern 4 is constituted in such a manner that numerous fine patterns of an optional shape are arranged with an optional interval on the base of the symbol display device, or consists of fine plaid patterns, and by making the background pattern 4 softer color compared with the symbols 2a, 2b, 2c, thereby causing a person to look at the symbol to produce illusions as if his eyes were out of focus.
