PURPOSE: To obtain a display device with which the adjustment of the white and black levels and the position adjustment can be omitted for the signals to be displayed by carrying out the monitor display via the symbol pattern signal having both the white and black levels.

CONSTITUTION: The video signal which could be picked up by camera 1 is sent to monitor 3 via amplifier 2 to display the picture corresponding to the video signal. On the other hand, picture element division circuit 4 generates the signal which divides the screen of monitor 3 with every picture element. Symbol circuit 5 generates the symbol pattern signal in correspondence to the indication given from input A. With this pattern signal, the signal featuring such timing that can be displayed at an optional position of monitor 3 corresponding to indication value B is generated through address circuit 6. For the symbol pattern signal, the logic product is secured with the picture element division signal of the scanning line direction via AND circuit 7. Then the pattern signal is sent to the input terminal of the single side of amplifier 2 via the differential circuit comprising capacitor 8 and resistance 9 to be displayed at monitor 3. As a result, the symbol can be seen regardless of the state of the image to be the background.
