To detecte the phase of a slide key groove on the inner diameter circumference of the rough inner diameter spline of a work processed in a first step, and the precise positioning of the phase position of the work of coupling teeth (so-called chipped teeth) or thin teeth with a certain positional relationship relative to the phase of the detected slide key groove in finish broaching.

In attaching the work 15 on a reference metal 16, when the detection protrusion 9a of a guide 7a at one part is pressed by a plate spring 14 at a position fitted in the slide key groove 14, teeth worked in finish broaching are considered to be positioned at a precise work phase position relative to the phase of the slide key groove 13. When the protrusion 9a of the guide 7a at one part is not fitted in the slide key groove 13 and abutted on the spline land 12 of the rough inner diameter spline 17, the protrusion 9a is inclined on the broach side, and made to be abutted on a stopper 21 when a broach 1 is inserted in a pull head 22.
