To provide an excellent synchronous motor controller which detects the step out by suppressing the current increase at the step out of the motor.
This synchronous motor controller calculates an exciting current from the motor current detected by a current detection means, and decides a voltage command using a motor power generation constant, an exciting current command, and the above exciting current, in regard to the output voltage of an inverter circuit. The amount of voltage correction is made so that the exciting current command and the above exciting current may accord with each other. This amount of voltage correction is compared with a predetermined specified value, thereby quickly detecting the step out of the synchronous motor.
