To provide an apparatus for synthesizing methanol from a gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, as a raw material gas, generated by pyrolytic gasification of biomass (trees, bamboos, grasses or the like), organic matter-containing wastes (woody wastes, plastic wastes, livestock wastes, sludge or the like) or the like.
Conventional industrial large-scaled synthetic plants for methanol are operated at about 200-250C and 5-10 MPa. The equilibrium conversion rate of the raw material gas to methanol is around about 40-50% even in the state above and therefore a large amount of the unreacted raw material gas is circulatedly used, but the decrease in the partial pressure of the raw materials gas causes further deterioration in the reaction rate. Accordingly, a large-sized practical plant is operated under pressure using a high-pressure reactor. The catalyst layer for a methanol synthesis reaction is used dividedly into a plurality of stages, and synthesized methanol is separated and recovered in each stage of the divided catalyst layer. The synthesis reaction column is operated under a low pressure.
