Title:
SYNTHESIS OF POLYBASIC CARBOXYLIC ACIDS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS54119401
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce polybasic carboxylic acids useful as coating additives, hardeners of epoxy resins, and many other applications, in one step reaction and at low cost, without formation of nitro-compounds, by using waste or by-products of linear hydrocarbon compounds as a raw material.

CONSTITUTION: 5W50C Polybasic carboxylic acids are produced by (1) mixing (A) a mixed acid composed of a ≥90 wt% fuming nitric acid and a ≥60 wt% concentrated sulfuric acid in a weight ratio of 1:1W20:1 with (B) ≥20C linear hydrocarbon compounds, such as polyethylene, poly propylene and paraffin, wherein the weight ratio of the fuming nitric acid in the mixed acid to the linear hydrocarbon compounds is 1W10 to 1, and (2) maintaining the mixture at 50W120°C to proceed the oxidation of the linear hydrocarbon compounds.
