PURPOSE: To develop a bronze-like metallic article high in resistant to acid and weather and having an excellent appearance by thermally spraying a copper alloy via a resin layer on the surface of a core of iron.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of the cast or rolled material of iron or steel is cleaned, and then a layer of the resin such as epoxy resin high in resistant to acid, alkali and water is formed in 10-150μm thickness by spray coating. The surface of the resin layer is roughened by shot blasting, etc., copper or a copper alloy such as bronze, brass and aluminum bronze is thermally sprayed thereon, the surface is finished by polishing, etc., and then treated with an aq. soln. of ammonium chloride, sodium chloride, potassium permanganate, copper sulfate, etc., and colored in a specified color tone, thus a steel product having a distinctive surface layer is produced.
