Abstract:

To provide wallcoverings that does not represent health or fire hazards, is environmentally friendly, has high strength, is durable, economical, dimensionally stable, easily strippable, and has good printability.

The wallcovering includes a nonwoven synthetic substrate 40 and a water-based ground coating layer 20 applied to the surface 30 of the substrate, wherein the ground coating includes emulsion polymer pigment binders and a mineral pigment composition. The ground coating provides the nonwoven substrate with superior printing and durability properties, enabling the production of wallcovering which may have print 50 with a decorative design. The wallcovering is desirable for environmental, health, and safety reasons.
