NEW MATERIAL: A synthetic peptide having an amino acid sequence of the region 1-42, 181-211 or 212-235 of the S1 subunit of pertussis toxin from Bordetella pertussis, the peptide being capable of stimulating T-cellular immunity to pertussis toxin.
USE: Useful as an immunogen-stimulating agent for anti-pertussis, and as acellular anti-pertussis vaccines.
PROCESS: For example, T-cells are cultivated in a medium supplemented with S1 subunit of pertussis toxin. A clone producing an anti-S1 antibody is selected and cultivated to separate an anti-S1 antibody. The reactive portion of the antibody is identified, and a peptide having an amino acid sequence corresponding to the S1 fragment is synthesized by Merriefield solid phase synthesis. Thus, a synthetic peptide containing an amino acid sequence of the amino acid residues of the partial region of the S1 subunit of pertussis toxin can be obtained.
