PURPOSE: To reduce the labor required for registering a synthetic picture, and to shorten the time required for its registration by registering automatically attribute information.
CONSTITUTION: A processor 16 stores synthetic picture data in an image file 12 by an inputted image file name, reads out mask information of still picture data of a composite element from a mask file 13, and calculates the area of an original image. Subsequently, by a combined relation of a synthesizing position of the image data and the mask information, the ratio of a remaining area to the area of the original image of each still picture data of the composite element is calculated, and the image data in which the ratio of the remaining area calculated from the ratio of the remaining area set in advance is large is extracted. Next, the processor 16 reads out attribute information of the extracted still picture data of the composite element from a retrieval index file 14, generates it as the attribution information of the image data after the synthesis, registers the image file name of the synthetic picture data and the generated attribute information, in the retrieval index file 14, and finishes the synthetic processing.
