Abstract:
PURPOSE: The titled composition useful as a binder, reusing economically cresol pitch, a by-product during production of cresol, obtained by subjecting resol pitch with an aldehyde or it and a phenol to polycondensation.
CONSTITUTION: Cresol pitch, a by-product during production of cresol from toluene and propylene, is subjected to polycondensation with an aldehyde (e.g., formaldehyde, etc.) or it and a phenol under acidic conditions (e.g., acidic component is oxalic acid, etc.) or alkaline conditions (e.g., alkaline component is sodium hydroxide, etc.), to give the desired resin composition.
