Abstract:

To provide a synthetic shaft, as a substitute for a wood shaft, for a biodegradable pencil-shaped cosmetic excellent in rigidity, cutting properties, resistance to permeation by oils and fats and other physical characteristics, giving a good feeling upon use, easily decomposable after disposed, combustible with low heat generation and generating no harmful substances when incinerated and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.

The hollow, tubular synthetic shaft 11 for a biodegradable pencil-shaped cosmetic is formed from a biodegradable thermoplastic material comprising a starch ester, obtained by substituting reactive hydroxyl groups in the same starch molecule with a short chain acyl group and a long chain acyl group, and a reinforcing filler. The biodegradable thermoplastic material may contain a biodegradable thermoplastic resin. The biodegradable pencil- shaped cosmetic comprises a cosmetic core 12 filled in the hollow part of the synthetic shaft 11. A cap 14 and a tail plug 13 are formed from the biodegradable thermoplastic material.
