To find the relative position of a plurality of global positioning system(GPS) receivers stably and with high accuracy, irrespective of an area in which a user is positioned.
In a positioning apparatus 1, usable radio waves out of radio waves which are received by an antenna 10 and on which pieces of positioning information from a plurality of satellites are superposed are selected by a selection part 12. The positioning apparatus 1 communicates with a partner positioning apparatus 1' by a communication part 11. Radio waves which can be owned jointly by the apparatus 1 and the apparatus 1' are selected. In the apparatus 1 and the apparatus 1', a positioning operation is performed by a set of the common selected radio waves. The positioned result of the apparatus 1' is transmitted so as to be received by the apparatus 1. In a computing part 14, the relative distance between the apparatus 1 and the apparatus 1 is computed on the basis of the difference between the positioned result of the apparatus 1 and that of the apparatus 1'.
