To provide a technique that allows accurate recognition of the directivity of a medical image even when a problem arises in DICOM (digital imaging and communications in medicine) information.
A medical image processing system comprises a medical image processing apparatus 1, a medical image diagnosis apparatus 2 and an image database 3. The medical image diagnosis apparatus 2 implants directional information in image data of an acquired medical image and sends them together with DICOM information to the medical image processing apparatus 1. The medical image processing apparatus 1 determines whether the direction of the implanted directional information and the direction of the DICOM directional information matches or not. When the directions match, the medical image is displayed. When the directions do not match, an error message is displayed. When the directional information or DICOM directional information is corrected by a user, the medical image is displayed. When the directional information or the DICOM directional information is not corrected, transmission of the medical image to the image database 3 is prohibited and the medical image is stored internally.
