To provide a method for use in a device having a local oscillator.
The method includes a step of training at least two mathematical models of an oscillator so as to find a prediction correction signal for each mathematical model on the basis of at least its part in a correction signal as a function of an external reference signal and as a function used to control a drift in the oscillator while a local oscillator controlled by the external reference signal is locked by the external reference signal. In the method, when the external reference signal cannot be used and when another correction signal is used to control the drift in the oscillator, a mathematical model of at least two mathematical models that results in a smallest time error is selected. The method further includes a step of testing the selected mathematical model using the sampled version of the correction signal in such a manner that the selected mathematical model can be used without necessity of testing duration that is in addition to a period of time used for the training.
