Abstract:
To reduce the functionality of a leased device against lease violation without requiring a lessor to physically access or retrieve the leased device.SOLUTION: A device used under a device lease contract includes a memory 119 that stores local parameters 121 defining lockout times at which the device is locked out from performing device functions, and a controller 117 configured to automatically switch the device from an operating mode to a locked mode at stored times. An asset management system 101 for a leased refrigeration device 103 may include a remote server 105 that transmits, to the device, instructions to change lockout times stored in a local memory. An encryption key generator 109 may also be used to allow a user to locally update the lockout time stored in the memory by entering an encryption key.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
