Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a system and a method for optimizing the usage of a communications transmission media. CONSTITUTION: In order to generate time-frequency slices to be assigned to various access rates and user's application requirements a transmission medium is sliced into time and frequency regions. By scheduling various speed users in the time and frequency regions, an available spectrum can be efficiently assigned and used. While keeping a cost effective access for low-speed user 50, this method is suitable for a high-speed user 46 requiring the assignment of wide-band width and time slot 44. Corresponding to a signal modulating system, a time-frequency slice can be assigned to non-continuous frequency bands. By slicing an available code space together with a time-code region and frequency-code region or three-dimensional time-frequency-code regions, this method can be applied to code-division multiple accesses as well. In order to optimize the use of the communication medium users can be efficiently scheduled based on code space requirements.
