A user can aim a pointing device 500 at an icon 505 displayed on the screen of a television receiver 150 with a light pot on the screen of the television receiver 150. The sensor 510 generates an electric signal representing one or plural attributes such as the shape and color of the icon 505 that the pointing device 500 indicates. A tone generator 520 generates an AC electric signal of frequency determined with the output of the sensor 510. The speaker 530 generates a voice tone in response to the AC signal output from the tone generator 520. This voice tone is detected by the microphone 175 of the telephone set 170 and sent to a server 140.
