PURPOSE: To make it possible to automatically set an optimum temp. range, by detecting the max. and min. temps. of a temp. measuring region and imagewise displaying the temp. difference between both temps. as a temp. range.
CONSTITUTION: A max. and min. temp. detection means, which consists of an area detection part 10 for detecting the imaged signal superposed to an inputted cursor and a max. and min. temp. detection part 11 for detecting the max. and min. temps. of the image signal outputted from the area detection part 10, is provided to an infrared imaging apparatus. The area detection part 10 reads the image signal superposed to the cursor from the image stored in an image memory 4 corresponding to an inputted position signal and the max. and min. temp. detection part 11 is constituted so as to detect the max. and min. temps. in the image signal by comparing said image signal with the prescribed temp. value preset to data registers 11-3, 11-4 by comparators 11-1, 11-2 and sends both temps. to a range operation part 5 and the temp. difference value of both temps. is used as a temp. range to set image brightness gradation which is, in turn, displayed.
