Abstract:
PURPOSE: To decrease the floor space necessary for carrying out the work for sorting mail pieces and to shorten the time necessary for carrying out the sorting work.
CONSTITUTION: At the destination, the specific articles are raked from a carrier 40 by a raking assembly and are transferred to a container 22. The container, when full, is gravity fed to a discharge conveyor and is automatically replaced with a new empty container. The carrier operates on two levels and the respective carriers are maintained in a horizontal posture throughout sorting process to deliver the articles to the respective containers on the two levels. The articles may be continuously transferred at a rapid speed by the sloped front ends 54 and 56 of the carrier.
