To provide a method for treating domestic waste or a waste dry cell and a method for efficiently reproducing as raw materials the valuable metals to be generated when the domestic waste or the waste dry cell is treated.
This waste treating system contains a sorting apparatus 4, a crushing apparatus 6, a sieving apparatus 7 and a magnetically sorting apparatus 8. The apparatus 6 contains a crusher equipped with a screen 6a through which granular pieces of the crushed waste are made to pass and to which a wire net having slit-shaped meshes is attached. A uniaxial shear type machine is used as the crusher. The waste dry cell is also treated in this system. Waste dry cells are sorted into a mixture 5 of manganese dry cells and alkaline dry cells, only alkaline dry cells 5' or only manganese dry cells 5''. The crushed dry cells are sorted magnetically on a sieve so that the magnetized portion 13 is recovered as an iron raw material and the non-magnetized portion 14 is recovered as a zinc/copper-mixed raw material 15 or a zinc raw material 15'. The portion passing through the sieve is recovered as it is as the raw material 15 or 15'. The recovered iron raw material is supplied to an iron-making process or a steelmaking process. The recovered materials 15 and 15'are supplied to a nonferrous metal smelting process.
