A CPU 101 issues various commands regarding a tablet to a controller 104 through a series interface 103 according to a program recorded in a memory 102. In finger mode, the controller 104 supplies an AC signal to a touch panel 105 to calculate coordinates corresponding to a case wherein the controller 104 detects variation of the signal flowing to the touch panel and send them to the CPU 101. When pen input data is detected successively to the finger input data, a track on a screen which corresponds to the finger input data that is stored so far is deleted. Consequently, character input information based upon unnecessary information is not disordered and the operability can be improved.
