The take-up unit for the optical fiber coil which drops the optical fiber directly in a take-up tray 12 and winding the optical fiber from an internal-diameter side 12a to an external-diameter side 12b and vice versa by turns to stack the optical fiber along the axis of winding is equipped with a control mechanism which rotates a supply mechanism S and a capstan mechanism K, or a take-up table mechanism T in the take-up direction of the optical fiber and varies the winding diameter Dn of the coil by controlling a rotating speed Rn and a payoff speed Vn according to the relation represented by Dn= Vc/πRn, where Rn is the rotating speed, Vn is the payoff speed of the optical fiber from the capstan mechanism K, and Dn is the winding diameter of the coil.
