To provide a tamping device which performs good tamping by lifting and dropping a tamping plate as ever, so as to apply a great pressurizing force on concrete after placement.

This tamping device 10 includes a roller 12 which is rotatably attached to a supporting frame 11, and a cam mechanism portion 23 which is rotated by the roller 12 while the cam mechanism portion 23 comprises a plurality of cams 25. Each of the cams 25 makes one end 22a of a lever 22 moved as a follower for each of the cams 25 during the rotation of the cam mechanism portion 23. The tamping plate 13 is suspended in a vertically movable manner from the supporting frame 11 by a wire 20 which is connected to the other end 22b of the lever 22 swung by the cam mechanism portion 23. When a leading end of each of the cams 25 passes through the one end 22a of the lever 22, the tamping plate 13 is dropped, and a concrete surface after the tamping is leveled by means of a leveling plate 28 which is attached to the rear of the tamping plate 13.
