To contrive the stabilization of the productivity of a veneer by a method wherein a defective veneer is passed and piled to a defective veneer heap yard without being cut for scarfing when the length or the like of a veneer, both the edges of which have been aligned, is detected so as to be judged as the defective veneer.
When a veneer V carried out of a feeding process 1, in which the veneer V having a trapezoidal shape or the like is fed one by one with a suction conveying mechanism or the like to the direction normal to the fiber direction of the veneer, is judged with a sensor 7 consisting of a photoelectric switch for detecting the length and width of the veneer V, a limit switch for detecting the thickness of the veneer and the like as a defective veneer 1f, the detection signals are transmitted to a controller such as a sequence or the like so as to stop the actuation of a cutting process for scarfing 4, in which both the end edges 1a and 1b of a veneer is cut with circular saws C into scarfed arrears in order to get a scarfed veneer S. Then, by means of pinch rolls 8 consisting of rollers 8a and air cylinders 8b or the like provided between the cutting process for scarfing 4 and a joining process 6 for obtaining a connected band-like tandem board jointed veneer R, the defective veneer 1f is carried out to a defective veneer heap yard, at which an elevating table or the like is arranged.
