PURPOSE: To prevent the damage at the end of a tape and to perform a random access at a high speed by providing a revolution detector which produces a signal in response to the number of revolutions of a supply reel, and a control voltage generator which varies the terminal voltage of a reel motor by comparing the signal of the revolution detector with a reference signal set previously.
CONSTITUTION: A control voltage generator 3 applies a fixed level of voltage V0 to a reel motor 4 until it receives a command signal of a comparator 2. Then the motor 4 runs with constant revolutions, and a revolution detector 1 produces the voltage proportional to the number of revolutions of a supply reel. The reference voltage of the comparator 2 is set at the level of the voltage which is delivered from the detector 1 at a place near the end of a tape. Therefore, the comparator 2 works when the number of revolutions of the supply reel reaches the set value. A control voltage generator 3 applies the voltage V half of the V0, for example, that is previously set to the motor 4 after receiving once a command signal from the comparator 2. As a result, the number of take-up revolutions of a reel motor 4 is decreased, and accordingly the number of revolutions of the supply reel is decreased, thus the damage produced at the end of a tape is suppressed.
