PURPOSE: To obtain a widely applicable portable device by adding a display part and an operation part to a tape recorder and inputting a sound signal to the one out of two tracks on a tape and, both a control signal and a display data signal on the other.

CONSTITUTION: Signals for two channels are recorded on the tape 1. A sound reproduction part 2 reproduces the sound signal recorded on the one track, while a signal read part 3 converts the control and data display signals recorded on the other into digital signals and transfers them to an information processing part 4. Out of two signals, the signal read as a display signal is displayed on a display part 5, and the contents of the signal read as the control signal are judged, drive a tape drive part 6, or wait for an input from the operation part 7. When the input from the operation part 7 is given to the processing part 4, the contents operate the drive part 6 if necessary, or modify the display of the display part 5. Thus the widely applicable portable device is attainable.
