Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reliably fix the pivotal pin of the roller of a valve driving tappet with coller by inserting softening members made of nickel or iron containing low carbon into a junction between the tappet and the pivotal pin and welding them. CONSTITUTION:When a pivotal pin 10 supporting a roller brought into contact with a valve driving cam is to be fixed to the end section of a tappet 5 having a hole for a push rod inside it, first a roller 13 coupled with a needle bearing 14 is inserted into the recess 7 of the tappet 5, and the pivotal pin 10 is inserted into a through hole provided on the tappet. Softening members 12 mainly made of nickel or iron containing 0.2% or less of carbon are inserted into grooves around the pivotal pin 10. Next, they are welded with a laser beam 21 while the whole tappet 5 is rotated around the central axis of the pivotal pin 10. Softening members 12 are melted to soften the carbon content of a joint, and cracks are prevented from occurring on the welded metal.
