The telephone set 11 includes a key pad having a set of keys 14-19, and a visual display device 13 on which a menu can especially be displayed, where each menu consists of a plurality of items and corresponds to an option that is selectively activated by a user of the telephone set 11. The telephone set 11 is also provided with a means 111 that manages the menus and assigns at least one key 17 of the keypad to at least one item of at least a menu selectively. The selection of the corresponding item is directly executed by depressing at least the one key 17.
