To transmit steering torque in a high rigidity condition and slide (expand and shrink) in the axial direction by comparatively low and stable shaft slide load of a male shaft and a female shaft while preventing play of a steering shaft.

In an expanding and shrinking shaft for vehicle steering incorporated into the steering shaft of a vehicle and constituting the male shaft 1 and the female shaft 2 so as to prevent rotation and slide freely, it is provided with at least one spherical rolling body 5 which is provided between at least a pair of channels 3, 4 in the axial direction formed on an outer peripheral face of the male shaft 1 and an inner peripheral face of the female shaft 2, respectively, and to which pre-load is given in the radial direction by an elastic body 6 and at least one rollerlike rolling body 7 provided between the outer peripheral face of the male shaft 1 and the inner peripheral face of the female shaft 2.
