This detent mechanism 4 is provided with: a guide hole 13 formed in the outer column 2; and a synthetic resin guide block 14 supported and fixed on the inner column 3. An elastic deformation part for reducing a width dimension of the guide block 14, based on elastic deformation is provided on at least a width direction one side of the guide block 14. The width dimension of the guide block 14 in a free state in which the elastic deformation part is not elastically deformed is larger than that of the guide hole 13. The guide block 14 is assembled into the guide hole 13 in the state of the width dimension elastically being reduced by elastically deforming the elastic deformation part.
