To allow the user to easily recognize the genre of information by allowing the receiver to have a display element having a display area by two pages of a teletext program, dividing the display area of the display element into a 1st display area and a 2nd display area and displaying contents of items selected from total contents onto the 2nd display area thereby allowing the user to recognize to which item of the total contents teletext information displayed at present corresponds at a glance.
A display area of an LCD 54 is divided into a total contents display area 54M having a size of one page and a current display area 54C having a size of one page similarly. In the case that character data of the total contents are received, the total contents are displayed on the display area 54M of the LCD 54. When the user selects an item among the total contents, the selected item is displayed with inversion as a cursor. In the case that an item '5. Entertainment' is selected among the total contents and decided, the contents of the item '5. Entertainment' are displayed on the current display area 54C while leaving the total contents and the cursor of the display area 54M as they are.
