PURPOSE: To eliminate the occurrence of hindered communication by receiving a phone call with remote control operation only without leaving a seat in front of the television receiver even when the phone call comes while a television broadcast is watched and displaying the television broadcast program on a master pattern and a picture of an opposite party on a sub pattern.
CONSTITUTION: When a video phone call comes, a circuit control section 16 informs the arrival of the call to a voice processing section 17 to control the processing section 17 and to decrease a sound volume of a television broadcast program down to a set sound volume and allows a call tone to be sounded from a speaker 22. A system control circuit 7 immediately sends a command of a call reception message output to a display control circuit 12, the circuit 12 reads corresponding message data and superimposes the data onto picture data read from a television picture memory 6 and provides the result as an output. When a viewer operates a remote control section 20, a remote control signal is received by a remote control signal reception section 21, the control section 16 stops a call tone and a received voice of an opposite party is sounded from the speaker 22. Thus, a master/a slave pattern is replaced by the pushbutton operation of the control section 20 in this way.
