To reduce the time and labor of a user and improve handleability even when SD broadcasting is automatically switched to HD broadcasting which this television receiver cannot display as a video.
When a channel is tuned (S1), the TV receiver determines whether or not there is switching instruction information for the tuned channel in NIT information (S3). When there is the switching instruction information (YES in S4), the TV receiver 1 switches to the channel of the HD broadcasting (S5) and tunes it, determines whether or not there is a video signal for the channel of the HD broadcasting (S6), and when there is no video signal (YES in S7), determines whether or not the channel of the HD broadcasting is a type with the video on the basis of service type information in the NIT information (S8). As a result of the determination, when the channel of the HD broadcasting is the type with the video (YES in S9), the TV receiver switches to the channel of the SD broadcasting tuned before switching to the HD broadcasting (S10).
