PURPOSE: To produce the titled material useful as a photosensitive element, a temperature-sensitive element, an optical memory material, an ion conductive material, a catalyst, a dielectric material, etc., by heating and melting a mixture of TeO2 and K2O, and quenching the molten mixture at an extremely high rate of cooling.
CONSTITUTION: TeO2 is mixed with K2O or a potassium compound forming K2O by thermal decomposition, at a ratio to form (TeO2)1-x.(K2O)x (0<x≤0.40), and melted by heating at a temperature higher than the melting temperature of the mixture by about 50W200°C usually in air. The molten liquid of the mixture is quenched at an extremely high rate of cooling. The quenching is carried out usually at a cooling rate of about 104W106°C/sec e.g. by ejecting the molten mixture to the surface of a roll rotating at a high speed. The obtained amorphous oxide is useful as a photosensitive element, temperature-sensitive element, optical memory material, ion conductive material, optical recording tape, catalyst, light- transmitting electrically conductive material, dielectric material, opto-electric switching element, thermo-electric switching element, etc.
