To provide a temperature control device of an exhaust emission control catalyst for controlling a temperature of the exhaust emission control catalyst without lowering fuel efficiency, and, for example, capable of quickly activating the exhaust emission control catalyst; and a temperature control method thereof.
The temperature control device of the exhaust emission control catalyst is provided in an exhaust path of an internal combustion engine, and comprises a honeycomb catalyst carrier having a number of micro paths. The temperature control device includes: a parameter computing unit (step S2) for computing a parameter ωτ determined by an angular velocity ω of an exhaust pulse and a heat diffusion relaxation time τ so that a difference (Ea-Ef) between a sound energy Ea transferred to the exhaust emission control catalyst and a frictional loss energy Ef lost by friction between an exhaust gas and a wall surface of the catalyst takes a value up to a possible maximum value and within a predetermined range; an exhaust pulse angular velocity computing unit (step S3) for computing the exhaust pulse angular velocity ω, based on the parameter ωτ; and an engine control unit (step S4) for controlling the internal combustion engine so that the internal combustion engine can operate at the exhaust pulse angular velocity ω computed by the exhaust pulse angular velocity computing unit.
