Abstract:
PURPOSE: To minimize increase in temperature of an object 10 like a vehicle under illumination by solar radiation 20 and develop a coating therefor.
CONSTITUTION: A method for minimizing the temperature of an object under illumination by solar radiation comprises the step of determining a first spectrum of wavelengths (visible region) over which the object 10 emits electromagnetic energy and applying a selectively reflective paint coating to the object 10 like a vehicle. The applied paint coating substantially absorbs electromagnetic energy over the first wavelength spectrum and substantially reflects electromagnetic radiation over a second wavelength spectrum (near-infrared region) not overlapping the first spectrum.
