Abstract:
PURPOSE:To surely recognize the shape of an image pickup object by comparing corresponding picture elements of the read signal from a template memory and a binarization signal with each other. CONSTITUTION:The picture signal of character T is converted to a binarization signal by a binarization circuit with respect to each picture element. AND between picture elements of the binarization signal and the template read signal constituting an expanded template 3b is operated, and a number (m) of picture elements in the part where AND is '1' is counted by a counter 5a. AND between picture elements of the binarization signal and the template read signal constituting a reduced template 3c is operated by an AND 4b, and a number (n) of picture elements in the part where AND is '1' is counted by a counter 5b. In this case, the number (m) is always equal to the number of picture elements whose parts of the binarization signal are '1', and the number (n) is always equal to the number of picture elements whose part of the template read signal constituting the reduced template 3c are '1'. Consequently, it is judged by a decider 6 that the image pickup object is matched to a template if this template satisfying these relations exists.
